I've got lots of tips for where to stay in Parkes, or skip down if you know what you're looking for:

Out in the NSW Central West, five hours’ drive from Sydney, you might not expect to find too much here. But Parkes is an amazing little town with heaps to do (and a very famous festival).

It’s why there are actually quite a few places to stay in Parkes. It may not have as much variety as some other towns in regional NSW, but the best accommodation in Parkes is still very good.

There are a lot of motels, and you’ll definitely find some solid choices amongst them for easy options. They’re some of the most popular places to stay for people passing through – and, remember, Parkes is on a major transport intersection between Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and Perth.

If you’re looking for something a bit different, there are some nice apartments, houses, and even a couple of luxurious boutique hotels.

It’s easy to get around Parkes by car, so staying in a motel on the outskirts of town isn’t a problem. But I’d also consider getting something close to the centre so you can walk to the restaurants and pubs in the evening.

One thing to keep in mind: if you’re planning to visit during the Elvis Festival in early January (when over 25,000 fans descend on the town), you’ll need to book months in advance!

Check out my suggestions for the best things to do in Parkes.

For most visitors, a night or two in Parkes is probably enough to explore The Dish, wander through the Elvis attractions, and get a feel for this quirky town. But you can also use it as a base to visit Forbes and see its sculpture trail.

So, now, let’s have a look at some of the best accommodation in Parkes.

Best overall

For many visitors, one of the nice motels in Parkes will be the best choice. But I want to give a special mention to The Buchanan 1894, a boutique hotel that has the most interesting story in town!

The Buchanan 1894

There’s something about the grandeur of The Buchanan 1894 that immediately transports you back to the glory days of the Parkes goldfields.

This stately Victorian-era mansion, completed in 1894, was built by prospector William Haselhurst after he struck it rich here (after people doubted him), a classic rags-to-riches story that feels like it belongs in a novel.

The restoration has been beautifully handled, preserving the original features and heritage character while adding all the modern comforts you’d expect.

With four individual suites, each feels like you have your own generous space in this historic home. The largest one has two bedrooms, a lounge room, kitchen and bathroom. All of them are decorated with period furniture and memorabilia.

One of the best features is the saltwater pool in the lush garden, perfect for unwinding after a day exploring Parkes. There’s also a guest library where you can sink into the armchairs with a drink and a book before heading out to dinner.

The hotel is on a quiet residential street, which feels peaceful, but it’s only a short walk to the main street for shops and restaurants.

With just ten suites, Hotel Ernest fills up early during busy periods, so I would recommend booking in advance.

Best holiday park

You won’t find any of the large holiday parks full of kids entertainment in Parkes. These ones are more focused on caravans and longer stays.

Spicer Caravan Park

The tents and various-sized bungalows make Spicer Caravan Park a convenient option for a budget or family-friendly stay.

Parkes Country Cabins

They’re quite basic, but the rooms at Parkes Country Cabins give you a bit of personal space, plus there’s a shared bbq and outdoor pool.

Best motel

As I mentioned, some of the best accommodation in Parkes are its motels, so here are a few good ones to choose from.
