I've got lots more details below about finding the best place to stay in Orange - but you can jump straight down to my top recommendations:

The cool-climate wineries have helped put Orange on the map, but it’s the city itself that often surprises first-time visitors. Just take a walk down the heritage-lined streets and you’ll find a food and drinks scene that rivals much bigger destinations.

Orange has always been an important regional hub for the Central West, but now some of the best accommodation in Orange reflects this tourism transformation.

You’ll find beautifully restored heritage hotels in grand 1890s buildings, contemporary boutique properties with excellent restaurants attached, and smart serviced apartments that give you a bit more space.

While some visitors do choose to stay out at nearby vineyard properties, I’d actually recommend basing yourself in the centre of town. As a food destination, you’ll want to be within walking distance of the restaurants and wine bars.

There’s also the art gallery, museums, and heritage sites that’ll be easier to access if you’ve chosen somewhere good to stay in Orange. I’d recommend staying a couple of nights to see it all.

When it comes to budget, expect to pay a bit more than you might in other regional centres. Orange attracts a lot of weekenders from Sydney, and the accommodation market reflects that. But there’s still decent variety, and the quality is generally high.

So, with all that in mind, let’s look at some of the best places to stay in Orange.

Best overall

The superb renovation and transformation of an old heritage home is my top recommendation for where to stay in Orange. If you’re planning a special weekend in the city, this will be a highlight.

Yallungah Boutique Hotel

The grand Victorian homestead on Byng Street catches your eye as soon as you arrive. Built around 1896, Yallungah was once a cherished family home, and it’s been thoughtfully restored into one of Orange’s most appealing places to stay.

The Yallungah Boutique Hotel offers 22 rooms and suites that combine heritage details with contemporary design.

There are three suites at the front in the original homestead that are well worth the splurge. But then the back of the house has been extended into a colourful modern annex with rooms of different sizes.

All of them have exceptionally comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms, and thoughtful touches like fireplaces and underfloor heating.

Contemporary art is displayed throughout the property, creating an atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. The dining room, set in the original building, is where you can have breakfast.

There is free parking on site, but it’s just a short stroll to the centre of Orange, which is a nice way to explore the heritage streets. (Or, if you don’t want to go far, there’s a gate into the Ferment wine bar next door!)

It’s worth planning your whole trip around the availability at Yallungah Boutique Hotel so I would recommend trying to book a room as early as possible.

Best motel

Like a lot of the cities in the NSW Central West, there’s a good selection of motels in Orange and they’re often the best value places to stay.

In a beautifully restored heritage building, Yallungah Boutique Hotel has stylish rooms blending classic charm with modern design.
