For a pretty large city, there actually isn’t that much accommodation in Bundaberg. At least, aside from all the motels.
Even in the main street in the city centre, it’s mostly motels that you’ll see here. And there’s something charming about the relaxing vibe that creates, with lots of easily accessible and comfortable places to stay in Bundaberg.
It’s a bit strange, though, especially compared to other parts of the Queensland coast, because there are actually lots of things to do in Bundaberg. It has become a popular place for tourists to visits… so where is the best accommodation in Bundaberg hiding?
Well, when it comes to Bundaberg city, some of the motels are really good and almost feel like hotels. There are a couple of actual hotels and guesthouses near the river, which are nice. And you’ll find some lovely apartments.
So all of those options are particularly good if you’re coming to Bundaberg to do things in the city or perhaps you’re stopping for the night as you drive through.
This article is going to focus on those places and will talk you through the best Bundaberg accommodation. But most people who are coming here for a holiday choose to stay instead at nearby Bargara, the beach suburb about 15 minutes away.
There’s a lot more choice in Bargara, so if you’re coming for a longer period or for a relaxing coastal holiday, you may want to consider one of these options instead:
- HOLIDAY PARK: Just outside and right next to Mon Repos, Turtle Sands is a fantastic holiday park with powered sites and cabins, directly on the beach.
- MOTEL: There’s something really cute about the way the vintage Pacific Sun Bargara has been done up with retro furniture and amenities.
- APARTMENT: With a modern design, large pool, and comfortable beds, C Bargara Resort has a range of apartments from one to three bedroom.
- RESORT: The lovely villas at Kellys Beach Resort are set amongst a large lush garden, just a short walk from the sand.
It’s worth noting that Bargara isn’t that big so, wherever you stay, you’ll probably be quite close to the gorgeous beaches.
Wherever you choose to stay, I’d suggest planning for at least two nights if you want to explore the area. And maybe even longer if you want to do a day trip to Lady Musgrave Island. The pace here is relaxed, and you don’t want to rush things.
Here are my tips for the best things to do in Bundaberg.
With all that sorted, let’s head into the city and look at some of the best accommodation in Bundaberg.
Best overall
Because there isn’t a huge range of places to stay in Bundaberg, my top recommendation isn’t somewhere too fancy – it’s somewhere that makes the most of what the city has to offer.
When it comes to the best accommodation in Bundaberg, I think the Burnett Riverside Hotel not only has comfortable rooms, but it has a great location.
Burnett Riverside Hotel
Sitting right on the banks of the Burnett River, this hotel gives you one of the best locations in Bundaberg. The waterfront position means many rooms have river views, and you’re perfectly placed to explore the town’s compact CBD, which is just a short stroll away.
The Burnett Riverside Hotel has a range of room types to suit different budgets, from standard queens through to executive spa suites. They’re a bit dated, but the rooms are clean and comfortable with all the essentials you’d expect. (The executive rooms are worth the upgrade if you want a bit more space and those river views).
But what really sets this place apart are the on-site facilities. There’s a good-sized pool area that’s perfect after a day exploring the region’s attractions, and the hotel’s restaurant and bar are popular with both guests and locals.
The restaurant serves up solid pub-style meals, and it’s convenient to have everything right there without needing to venture out.

You’re within easy reach of Bundaberg’s main attractions from here, with the famous Bundaberg Rum Distillery only a few minutes’ drive away, for example.
While it’s not a boutique property, the Burnett Riverside Hotel delivers exactly what you need for a comfortable stay in Bundaberg at a reasonable price point.
Although you’ll normally always find a decent motel as a backup, I would suggest booking the Burnett Riverside Hotel in advance because it can fill up.
Best backpacker
There are a couple of backpacker hostels around Bundaberg that are aimed at farm workers who are staying long term. There’s really only one hostel I would recommend for travellers who are here for a short stay.
Bunk Inn Hostel

The new capsule-style beds at the Bunk Inn Hostel mean lots more privacy at a fantastic price.
Best motel
There are lots of motels in Bundaberg and many of them are great options for your stay (some are not so great). These ones are my top picks.
Golden Palms Motor Inn

There are lots of motels in Bundaberg, but Golden Palms Motor Inn is clean, comfortable, and has the best value, I reckon.
Takalvan Motel

With an onsite steakhouse and saltwater pool, Takalvan Motel has comfortable rooms plus ample parking for boats and trailers.
Sugar Country Motor Inn

Along with a saltwater pool and on-site restaurant,
Sugar Country Motor Inn offers comfortable rooms with modern amenities.
Best hotel
There aren’t too many places to stay in Bundaberg that are considered hotels (as opposed to motels) but there are a few good options, each offering something a bit different.
Burnett Riverside Hotel

Overlooking the Burnett River with outdoor dining,
Burnett Riverside Hotel has comfortable rooms, many with spa baths or balconies.
12th Tee BnB

Clean and pet-friendly with a great pool and light breakfast, 12th Tee BnB has a lovely grassy area and comfortable amenities.
Bluegrass BnB

For a more personal experience, the Bluegrass BnB has a warm welcome and fantastic breakfast (but it’s slightly out of town).
Best apartment
For longer stays or for larger groups, there are some nice self-contained properties that will give you a bit more space or comfort.
Alexandra Apartments

If you’re travelling as a family or a group, the 2 and 3-bedroom options at Alexandra Apartments give you plenty of space.
Studio 33
Nicely furnished and pet-friendly with a private pool, Studio 33 offers a fully equipped kitchenette and outdoor dining area.
Tiny Al’Molokai by Tiny Away

Private and peaceful with a beautiful garden, Tiny Al’Molokai by Tiny Away is a clean, fully equipped tiny home that’s pet-friendly.
